It Is Not Hard To Add An Image To Your Blog Sidebar
When you first start blogging there is a definite learning curve. The more you learn though the easier everything gets. If you have been blogging for awhile and you want to change your sidebar, then chances are you already have the skills to do it. You probably do not need to get in touch with your techie friend to make this minor change.
What Are Sidebar Widgets?

Your sidebar is made up of widgets. The widget is a feature that allows you to move things in and out of your sidebar. There is a widget for your pages, your outgoing links, your RSS feed and there are widgets for installing text or images. Go to the appearance section of admin then look at your widgets. Once you have an idea of what a widget is and you know how to upload an image the process of adding a photo or linked logo to your sidebar is simple.
Add An Image In Your Sidebar
Open a new page which will be your “sandbox.” Chances are if we set up your blog, then you already have a “test” or “sandbox” page in your drafts section. Upload the image to your test page that you want to install in your sidebar. Your sidebar is not very wide so keep that in mind. Try to have the uploaded image under 300 PX wide to start. Chances are you will be resizing it to less than 200 PX before you are done.
After uploading the image before you insert it into the page choose the feature that will center the image and add the destination URL where you would like the picture to link it to. Insert it in your test post. After inserting it into the post, re-open the image by clicking on it and then go to advanced features and select “open in a new window.” It might say “blank target.” Save your draft!
Put Image In Widget
You can now copy the HTML code from your HTML tab in your WordPress admin. Look to the right side of your text entry area and see the HTML tab. Click it, then copy the code and paste it into a text box widget and place it on your sidebar where you want it.
Check the front of your site then come back to the ‘sandbox’ page and click the image to adjust the size and grab the code again and re-enter it until you get it exactly the way you want it.
Step By Step Installing An Image In The Sidebar Widget
Just follow these steps and you will succeed at adding an image to your blog’s sidebar widget.
- Open a test page.
- Upload your image using the admin upload feature.
- Add the destination URL and center your image using the image upload feature.
- Install into post.
- Re-open image in the installer and go to advanced and set the link to open in a new (or blank) target/window.
- Grab your code from the HTML tab.
- Go to your widgets page.
- Add a text widget to the sidebar.
- Place your code into the text space and save.
- Look at the front end. Decide if it needs to be smaller.
- Return to test page and re-size.

Thanks Deb I had always wondered how to add the code for an image into the widget. Never thought about setting up a test page to cut and paste the code. Thanks again.
