How Does Website Look In Different Browsers?

Always Look At Your Website In Different Browsers

People use a wide variety of browsers and websites often look different in different browsers. It is a good idea to see how your website is looking in different browsers periodically.  This is especially important if you are being creative and using some coding techniques.

Browsers Respond Differently

The difference in browsers is especially important if you work in an editor and then upload your code.  In WordPress, frequently I may develop a page in DreamWeaver because I want to use text boxes or other features and then just copy the code into the html section of WordPress.  If I forget to look at it in other browsers, then invariably down the road someone draws to my attention some defect because they are using a browser that is seeing things differently.  Generally if you are working in the admin section of WordPress and only using the WYSIWYG editor within admin, then you won’t have any issues.  It is still a good idea to look at your site in other browsers occasionally, as sometimes a specific WordPress theme does not do well in every browser.

Check Different Browsers Compatibility

You can download and install different browsers on your computer.  My default browser is FireFox but I also use Internet Explorer, Chrome, Sea Monkey and Opera.  I feel better when occasionally I visit and check my sites in different browsers.

Another thing you can do is check your website at the browser shots website:

http://browsershots.org/

You can select your browser and get a compatibility screen shot. I like to just periodically use a different browser to see what others are seeing.

I learned this the hard way. I always use firefox and when I happened to look at my site on internet explorer I was surprised to find the spacing between lines of text way huge. I had used html breaks to create spaces and it didn’t look the same in different browsers. I will definitely take a look at my page in browsershots! Thank you!

Ok so is there anything i can do or does my website look bad on certain browsers forever… cause on chrome it looks good then on firefox everything is to the left.

Well, Liz – I would strongly suggest that you upgrade your website to a Wordpress format. That does not need to be a blog but it will keep you up to date on all browser changes as WP is always adding and improving. You can get a more modern looking site that upgrades automatically whenever necessary by using the Wordpress software.
