Search Engine Optimization Strategies

Good search engine optimization is like a pie. (Don’t forget, I am a chef and I relate everything to food!) SEO is constantly changing and the best we can do is study and stay up on the newest strategies. It is impossible to say which SEO strategies are right or wrong. |
SEO Secret Strategy
I am going to share with you my secret search engine optimization strategy. (You won’t read about this anywhere else! It’s a secret!) I call it the SEO Pie Strategy. This is a balanced strategy that divides your SEO into three equal parts, just like the pie I made last year. (sweet potato, oatmeal apple and pecan)
Improve SEO Results With Pie Strategy
If you want to improve your SEO results regardless of whether you have a blog, website or just pages in social sites, I suggest you use the simple and secret pie strategy.
- Content: Some SEO gurus call this “on page”. This includes your overall structure of both your writing style and your website configuration. If you do not have this part right, then the rest is a waste of time. These are your meta tags, titles, and descriptions which speak to the search engines as well as your content. Take the time to learn how to write in a cascading style by reading one of the relevant articles below. There are many posts on this site about writing good titles and tagging your article correctly. This part of the pie is all about good balance and structure.
- Activity: At my healthy living classes, I say that it takes energy to make energy. If you want more energy, get off the couch and go for a walk. If you want to be seen in the search engines, you must create activity. You must get people to your site to get more people to your site. Regular updating, on a weekly basis at a minimum, but new sites should be at least three times per week. Comments, visitors, updates, RSS feed joiners, other people talking about your site on other sites…. all play a role in activity.
- Links: There are some who say that links do not matter anymore because Google is wise to the fact that you can buy links. My secret pie strategy includes incoming links. For one thing, they help with number 2. In addition, links on relevant sites within your niche are putting you in front of all the right people, again helping with number 2. Links from social networks are exposing you to new people all the time, and again helping with number 2.
I am sure that if you have 10,000 quality links from other sites in your niche that Google will say:
WOW! look at this website/page using the secret pie strategy for SEO. That is one wise website. Look at all the activity and good traffic they have; let’s elevate them to number one!

I think that a lot of people either choose not to think about SEO because it is “scary” or they pick and choose a thing here and there in kind of a Russian roulette fashion, hoping that they will show up in search engines. This great article boils it all down (so to speak)into steps we all can use
You summarized this beautifully! I can grasp #1 & #2 but don’t know how to do #3. Can you help?
There are many ways to get links, Mary. Social sites is one, commenting on other blogs is another, trading links is another, or buying links. Here is an article that talks about link bait: http://howtobuildawebsitequick.com/2010/12/link-bait-for-web-traffic/
Natural links that come into your site from related blogs that like your stuff are the best. It is an ongoing process. Keep learning!!
