Website Page Rank
Google assigns page rank on a scale of 0 – 10. Basically, nobody gets a 10. I have seen FaceBook ranked at an 9 and YouTube is ranked 9 as well. This is a ranking which indicates a website’s authority level, calculated by a complicated system of variables that only Google knows. In itself, the page rank does not mean too much. Combined with other factors it can mean a lot. Simply, any page rank means you are doing things right or at least partly right and your website is moving up in the world.
My Web Site Ranking
We built this website in January of 2009 and by November the site was receiving a page rank from Google of 0. Now you may say that doesn’t sound so great but it is better than the n/a, which is what comes before zero. N/A pretty much means that Google does not see you. So, I was pretty excited to see some ranking. Actually, one of my reasons for keeping the blog at WordPress was to see if I could in fact get a free hosted site ranked. The answer is yes. And it did not really take that long, especially considering that I did not do much with the site. No directory submissions, no link building to speak of, not much more than a weekly (at best) post that was crafted to be search engine friendly.
Increase Page Rank
Many people keep their blogs hosted for free forever. The reason why I chose to move the site to my own hosting service is because as it increases in page ranking, visitors and longevity the site will also increase in value. We moved because when the site is PR 5 or so, we may want to sell it.
Search Engine Rank
A website is like real estate. Over time, and if cared for properly, it will increase in search engine rank and therefore increase in value. A free hosted website belongs to the free host. You are only a renter. Any investment you make into your property is really increasing the value for your landlord, or the free hosting service. The WordPress search engine page rank is a PR 9 also. Leaving HowToBuildAWebsiteQuick on a free site is giving them another page with ranking.
If you are making investments into your website and doing a good job of content creation, then you may want to consider hosting it on a paid server so that you can sell it someday, or pass the asset on to your kids. There are many hosting services. The one I have found most economical and easy to work with is www.GoDaddy.com . Actually, I only have one hosting account and I host all seven of my websites on the same account. A hosting account will cost about $80.00 per year, or if you get the premium account that will host more than one domain, it is only about $140.
How To Build A Website Quick Will Increase Rank With Paid Hosting
Moving this site to a paid hosting service will further increase the Google page rank. The reason I recommend that newbies to websites or blogging start with a free service like WordPress is because:
- It is FREE!
- WordPress is the most search engine-friendly of all blogging and website platforms
- It is easy to learn
- After learning WordPress it is easy to learn other site platforms.
Success on the internet takes time and commitment. Do not invest a ton of money until you are sure you are going to stick with it.
If after building your website you find that you are committed to it for the long haul and your site will accumulate in value, then it would be time to get a paid hosting service of your own to protect your asset and further increase your page ranking. WordPress Help: 717-751-2793
