An autoresponder is a system of marketing that automatically sends out emails to your database. The software does not actually write the emails. It sends out email to your clients when you program it to. Online marketing depends heavily on autoresponder systems.
Autoresponder Messages
You can set up a series of messages in your autoresponder to send or broadcast a message at an appointed time. For example, I sell an online diet program. It is a series of 60 messages sent to joiners over the course of six weeks. When someone signs up for the natural diet program, they are then put into the autoresponder and immediately the messages start. In this case it is the messages that the dieters purchased. In many cases the autoresponder is a marketing system. You set up a sequence of pre-written email messages that are sent out to the prospects in your database at regular intervals, marketing your products to them.
The importance is huge. Internet marketing gurus say that the money is in the list. The more people you have on a mailing list who are interested in your products or services, the more sales you will make. I have heard that the magic number for generating consistent income is 10,000 members in your database receiving your messages or specials.
Free autoresponder Software
There are many companies that have a wide variety of autoresponder software and services. It is not necessary to download software into your computer, nor is it recommended. There are plenty of online services that are available for free trials. The one I use Web Marketing Magic also has a shopping cart feature as well as secure image sections, and newsletter templates. The free introductory autoresponder offer for their program gives you a good opportunity to try out the service without a major investment.

Even the best autoresponder needs an enticement to get your potential clients to join it. What do you have that is of value that will encourage the visitors to your site to join? Are your website visitors landing on your homepage or somewhere else on your website and just disappearing?
