How to determine good keywords can sometimes be challenging. What words are people looking for and which ones will they click? If they do click your keywords will they buy something? How qualified are they when they land on your website? Using pay per click advertising may be a way to figure out those confusing questions. Keyword search tools can help you find key words that are in your niche. The right long tail keywords will bring more qualified visitors to your site. Long Tail Key Words
Long tail key words are strings of key words that describe your niche. On my healthy living website I sell diet and natural living programs. Some good key words for the site might be diet, diet programs, weight loss, weight loss programs, how to lose weight, etc. Open a new browser tab right now and type into your search bar any of those words and then look at the results. The page lists the top 10 results. If you look at the top right part of the page it will say 10 out of 5,756, 234, 201 (five billion+) or some other ridiculously high number. Do you think it is possible for me to get into the top 10 with those numbers? Yet, my site is in the top 10 with long tail key words. Try searching for Affordable Diet Programs or Natural Weight Loss for Women, or Affordable Natural Weight Loss. These are long tail key words strings that establish what I am really all about on that site. They narrow down the competition considerably making it possible for well-written articles that are optimized for the search engine to find them with valuable content relevant to the key words.

There are many keyword search tools available for free. Google has one, just Google keyword search tools and you will find several. Then type in your basic or general keywords like ‘diet programs’ and it will give you ideas for long tail searches that narrow down your niche.
